Dr. Hertz is considered an international expert in Quality and Change Management and a pioneer in the field of Organizational Effectiveness. His experience and expertise has brought extraordinary success to his clients and has earned him a prominent reputation as a teacher, coach and solutions provider.
Dr. Hertz was privileged to have studied, taught and partnered with Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the primary force behind America’s Quality Revolution and is the founder and President/CEO of The Paul Hertz Group, a 30 year old international management consulting, training, and coaching firm.
Dr. Hertz first met Dr. Deming at the New York University Stern Graduate School of Business Administration, where Dr. Hertz obtained his M.B.A. and Ph.D. At that time, he was a member of Dr. Deming's National Statistics Honor Society. A number of years later, while Dr. Deming was introducing his management philosophy to American business, he and Dr. Hertz reconnected and in the early 1980’s, they jointly founded the Deming Institute for the Improvement of Quality and Productivity. Dr. Hertz was an Executive Director of the Institute and was co-author of a position paper on the Deming Method, published in the Harvard Business Review. Dr. Hertz was also among a small and select group of professionals who, at the request of Dr. Deming, assisted him during his four day George Washington University seminars. Additionally, Dr. Hertz was a member of an exclusive group created by Dr. Deming called the Cosmos Club.
In 1981, Dr. Hertz also founded his namesake firm, whose charter was to develop an operational model of Dr. Deming’s management philosophy that could be implemented successfully by a broad base of companies and organizations. Over the next two decades, Dr. Hertz wrote curriculum, developed feedback instruments, coached a multitude of leaders and managers in the manufacturing, service and government sectors, and gave speeches and keynote presentations, sponsored by such organizations as MIT, the U.S. Navy Admirals Conference, Graphic Communications Association and the Harvard Club. Dr. Hertz also authored many articles on management and productivity which have been featured in such professional journals as the Harvard Business Review, Industry Week and Quality Magazine. In fact, his close ties with Dr. Deming coupled with Dr. Hertz’s instrumental role in the quality movement led him to be invited to write the article on Dr. Deming’s teachings in Quality Magazine’s 25th anniversary issue, alongside articles by Dr. Joseph Juran, Tom Peters, and Philip Crosby. Dr. Hertz was also cited in Dr. Deming’s book, Out of the Crisis.
It was during this time that Dr. Hertz honed his skills in helping organizations overcome the challenges of growth, change and transformation as he spearheaded the design of his outstanding programs on Leadership Excellence, Team Building and Process Improvement and Innovation. It was also during this time that Dr. Hertz began to see the indisputable connection between motivation and performance and proved scientifically that many of the blockages to improving individual and organizational performance were rooted in people’s underlying motivational traits.
Intrigued by the connection between motivation and performance, as well as the persistence of dysfunctional behavior in organizations, Dr. Hertz introduced his revolutionary PRINT® system for personal, interpersonal and organizational growth and development in 1998. Through research and analysis with existing clients, Dr. Hertz demonstrated that people’s behaviors were in fact predictable and their less desirable behaviors could be managed and improved using appropriate strategies and interventions. Talent management, leadership skills, team performance, and overall workplace effectiveness benefited from these discoveries, as Dr. Hertz integrated the principles and techniques of PRINT® into his firm’s consulting model.
In recent years, Dr. Hertz has written a great deal about PRINT®, including two ground breaking articles in CIO Insight entitled, “Does CIO Behavior Derail Intentions” and “The Human Element of IT”. His new book is called ShadowFree: An Unconventional Roadmap for Individuals and Organizations to Unleash their True Potential. close

Debra played a significant role in not only co-developing PRINT® and co-authoring its many profiles and reports, she was also instrumental in expanding PRINT® into its many applications, including corporate hiring, leadership development, team building, sales effectiveness embracing change (overcoming change traps) and innovative thinking (overcoming thinking traps) programs.
Debra Levine's professional experience includes one additional highlight…serving as Administrative Director of the Deming Institute. In this capacity she managed initiatives focused on increasing the awareness of US business and industry about Dr. W. Edward Deming's worldwide contributions to improving quality and productivity.
